Description
To oversee all Bacone College intercollegiate women’s basketball program areas, including budget management, personnel management, practice and game planning, recruitment and retention, and development. Support the tribal college mission and values of Bacone College and the NAIA Champions of Character.
Qualifications
Supervision and management of the Bacone College intercollegiate women’s basketball program, including development, execution, and assessment of plans for budget management, personnel management, recruitment, retention, and day-to-day operations of the program. Operations include communication regarding facility needs, planning and scheduling of regular practice sessions, preparing effective team strategy for formal contests, evaluating team and individual performances, coordinating an effective in and out-of-season player conditioning and strength program, preparing game schedules and coordinating travel and meal arrangements, supervision and development of coaching staff, and collaboration with Admissions, Financial Aid, FAR, and AD. Educate student-athletes on the theory of the game and actual performance expectations. Support student-athletes in academic success and professional planning. Develop fundraising projects and collaborate with the Special Projects Department to identify and cultivate donors. Increase support for the women’s basketball program and Bacone Athletics. Participate in various community service projects and College events and serve on Bacone College committees as requested by the Athletic Director, Vice President of Strategic Initiatives and Special Projects, and Bacone President. Complete other tasks and duties as assigned by the athletic director and participates in college functions when appropriate.
3 – 5 years’ experience as a college assistant coach and head coach preferred. High school head coaching experience will be considered.
Bachelor’s degree is required, and a Master’s degree is preferred.
Knowledge of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Association of Independent Institutions (AII) regulations and policies or separate sports affiliations governing athletics is highly preferred.
Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills are necessary. The ability to motivate and influence others is material to this position academically and athletically. It requires diplomacy, the ability to garner the trust of others, and maintaining confidential information—the ability to lead inclusively and developmentally. Successful experience in recruiting, evaluating, and coaching is desired.
The position requires strong financial, time, and personnel management skills. The individual must possess an acute understanding of sports preparation and facilitation. Some experience and expertise in fundraising and summer camp development will be considered. The individual must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 35 pounds.
