Student Activities

Curricular and extracurricular activities are important in Bacone's total educational program. Intercollegiate and intramural sports, student organizations and religious all are considered integral parts of the College experience. You will find organizations and honorary societies for students who have a variety of special interest.

Student Life Coordinator

Any organization on the campus must identify its goals and objectives and see that these are compatible with the philosophy and regulations of the College. Each student organization must obtain official recognition from Student Life, Student Senate and please refer to the Constitution of the Student Government Association for further details.

Freshman Class

All students who have earned less than 28 hours of college credit are members of the Freshman class.

Sophomore Class

All students who have earned 28 to 62 hours of college credits are members of the Sophomore class.

Junior Class

All students who have earned 63 to 89 hours of college credits are members of the Junior class.

Senior Class

All students who have earned 90 or more hours of college credits are members of the Senior class.

Organizations

Student Senate

All students are encouraged to participate in Student Senate. Student Senate is the student governing body that promotes academic, social and spiritual development of all Bacone Students. Student Senate meetings are held regularly and everyone is invited. Elections for officers will be held in the Spring of 2003.

Black Student Society/BSS

BSS seeks to improve campus and community life through varied activities and the dissemination of information that uplifts and encourages understanding between all persons. Membership is open to all Bacone Students.

Bacone Student Nursing Association/BSNA

BSNA is a local organization of the Oklahoma Student Nurses Association. Its primary purpose is to foster the nursing students' interest in professional nursing organizations and to prepare them for membership upon graduation. It also encourages students to participate in local and state health functions.

Bacone Society of Student Radiographers/BSSR

BSSR is a club open to Pre-Radiography students and students in the Radiography Program. The club's purpose is to advance the science of radiography by helping to establish and maintain high standards of education and training, elevate the quality of patient care and improve the welfare and social economics of radiography.

Intervarsity/Fellowship of Christian Athletes/FCA

FCA is a nationwide, non-denominational Christian organization. Established to develop and maintain the Christian commitment of varsity athletics, everyone is welcome to participate. It is not a competitive organization, but supplement to all existing Christian programs that support the mission of Bacone College.

Native American Student Association/NASA

NASA's primary purpose is to help all students become aware and informed about the culture of the American Indian. The group sponsors several pow-wows, Indian dinners, participates in Indian arts and craft shows, attends Indian cultural events and encourages other events to preserve Indian culture and tribal backgrounds. Membership is open to all Bacone students.

Nurses Christian Fellowship/NCF

NCF is an international, non-denominational Christian organization established on college campuses to help nursing students and graduates influence the nursing profession for Jesus Christ. NCF seeks to help its members develop as Christ's disciples and see their lifestyle and communications make a difference where they work in nursing. NCF holds Bible studies, weekly prayer sessions, seminars and conferences. NCF also sponsors short-term medical mission outreaches to areas in the Third World. The Chapter is open to pre-nursing and nursing students.

Phi Theta Kappa/PTK

PTK is the international honor society of the two-year college. Students who have completed at least 12 hours in college level courses, and have earned at least a 3.5 grade point average as a freshman or 3.3 grade point average as a sophomore are eligible for membership. The hallmarks of Phi Theta Kappa are leadership, scholarship, fellowship and service. Lambda Delta is the Bacone Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa.

Publications Club/Pub Club

Students who are interested in any phase of Journalism such as: news, writing, photography, advertising, layout, design and reporting skills, are encouraged to join. Weekly meetings take place in the Journalism Department located in Barnett Hall, second floor south. Members are encouraged to become staff members of the student newspaper, The Baconian. Journalism majors fill club officer positions, and a rotating officer is expected to represent the club at the Student Senate meetings. Club members usually make at least one field trip each academic year and participate in annual fundraising activities. The Pub Club was founded to ensure the preservation of memories of Bacone College and enhance the image of the College.
