Dr. Leroy W. Thompson

Title: Assistant Vice President Church Relations Chaplain & Assistant Professor of Religion

Dr. Leroy W. Thompson is the Asst. VP for the Center for Church Relations at Bacone College in Muskogee, OK. In that capacity he serves as the coordinator for the college's counseling/mentoring program. Dr. Thompson is also Asst. Professor of Religion, teaching in the Christian Ministry degree program. In addition, Dr. Thompson has served as an adjunct faculty member for Central Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, KS and as the site liaison for the Oklahoma Cohort of the D Min program at Drew University Theological School, Madison, NJ.

Dr. Thompson holds the Bachelor of Arts degree from Lincoln College, Lincoln, IL, the Master of Religious Education degree from Lincoln Christian Seminary, and the Doctor of Ministry degree from The Theological School of Drew University, Madison, NJ.

In addition to academic preparation, Dr. Thompson's ordination is recognized by the American Baptist Churches, USA as well as the fellowship of Independent Christian Churches and Churches of Christ. Having served in the local pulpit for over 30 years, he brings a rich background of practical ministry experience to the discussion.


Rev. Betty Wright-Riggins

Rev. Betty Wright-Riggins

Title: Regional Representative

We are pleased to have Reverend Betty Wright-Riggins serving as a Regional Representative of Bacone College. The Reverend Betty Wright-Riggins comes to Bacone with a most impressive personal and professional background. An American Baptist for her whole professional life, she is known and respected in her denomination, having served the American Baptist Churches, USA in numerous and varied capacities over the years. Most recently, Rev. Wright-Riggins served as Regional Representative for the Ministers Missionaries Benefit Board, American Baptist Churches, USA. This responsibility took her across the nation and the world, connecting with ABC leaders and churches. Ms. Wright-Riggins has been an ABC Pastor, Associate Minister, Church Planter, and Christian Academy Principal. She also understands the academic world having been an Adjunct Professor at Palmer Theological Seminary and facilitator of numerous special studies and conference. Betty is much in demand as a speaker and teacher and has been published in “Those Preaching Women,” a compilation of sermons by female American Baptist ministers. All of this work is built upon three Masters degrees: Master of Divinity/ Theology and Ministry, Master of Education/ Education Administration, and a Master of Speech Pathology.

These connections and these experiences have prepared her in a very unique way to serve Bacone as a Regional Representative. We count it a privilege to have her serving with us.


Rev. Wil Brown

Rev. Wil Brown

Title: Special Adviser

We are also pleased to have Rev. Wil Brown serving as Special Adviser to the President of Bacone College and working with us in the Center for Church Relations.  The Rev. Brown is widely known among American Baptists as he served as the National Director of Native American Ministries for the American Baptist Churches, USA for 11 years.  Rev. Brown now serves as the Pastor at First American Baptist Church in Hobart, OK while assisting Bacone.   Rev. Brown serves on the American Indian Advisory Council to the President and is also a member of the Board of the Central Region of the American Baptist Churches, USA.  In addition to these varied duties, Rev. Brown is the Moderator of the Oklahoma Indiana American Baptist Association, a gathering of American Indian Churches in the Southwestern area of Oklahoma.  Wil and his family have been associated with Bacone College for many years as members of his family attended here in its earlier days.  His broad experience with Native churches from coast to coast and his commitment to Bacone make him a very valuable part of the  Bacone College team.
