Director's Notes
My name is John
"Yafke" Timothy (Yafke is Creek for "evening").
As the director of Ataloa Lodge, I want to share with you
the stories that tell of our American Indian artwork, culture,
and the Five Tribes of Oklahoma— Muscogee Creek, Cherokee,
Chickasaw, Seminole, and Choctaw Nations. |

Our collection also has items from tribes such as the Distant
Tribes of the Northeast and Northwest.
I hope you will also experience our stunning array of Maria
Martinez's black-on-black pottery from New Mexico's San Illdefonso
Pueblo.
As a citizen of the Muscogee/Creek Nation and working closely
with tribal leaders in our region, I feel that I offer a unique
perspective on Native American history, culture and the preservation
of our traditional ways.
I am very proud that Ataloa Lodge is a member of the Oklahoma
Museum Association, and that our authentic and handmade Indian
items featured in our Museum Store (both online and in our Museum)
are sold in strict accordance with the Indian Arts and Crafts
Act. This legislation that demands truth in advertising and
assures the buyer that items identified as "American Indian
made" are just that.
Our museum store has a wide variety of items in all price ranges—including
my latest CD release with Lisa LaRue—"That Ole Sofkee
Spoon"—native flute mingled with guitar and keyboard
for a jazzy sound; I hope that you will browse the online Museum
Store and look my handpicked selection.
Please enjoy browsing our website, and accept my personal invitation
to not only visit Ataloa Lodge Museum but to experience the
relics and treasures that contribute to keeping Tribal Nations
and their traditions alive.
