NURSING PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Bacone College offers two nursing programs. The first is
an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Nursing (ADN) and the second is an
accelerated Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) for registered nurses
(RNs).
The ADN program has two tracts: a two year tract and a
licensed practical nurse (LPN) to RN tract, called the Career Advancement for
Practical Nurses (CAPN). The ADN program is approved by the Oklahoma Board of
Nursing (OBN), 2915 N. Classen Blvd., Suite 524, Oklahoma City, OK 73106-5437;
telephone 405.962.1800. Graduates of this state-approved program are eligible
to apply to write the National Council Licensure Examination for registered
nurses (NCLEX-RN)*. The program is also accredited by the National League for
Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC). The ADN curriculum consists of both
general education and nursing courses, and can be completed in two years.
Nursing courses consist of classroom work and supervised clinical experiences
in a variety of settings located in Muskogee, Tahlequah, Tulsa, and surrounding
areas. Students are required to take nationally normed tests throughout the
curriculum and score in a designated proficiency range. Effective the 2005-2006
academic year, students are required to take a comprehensive NCLEX-RN
preparation exam and score in a designated proficiency range prior to
graduation.
The BSN program is a completion program for RNs. The
program is accredited by the NLNAC, 61 Broadway, New York, NY 10006, telephone
212.363.5555, ext. 153. The BSN curriculum also consists of both general
education and nursing courses. The nursing courses are delivered in an
accelerated format, with classes meeting one evening/week. Students may have
additional student meeting times on an arranged basis. Clinical experiences, if
required, are individually arranged. The BSN degree completion program can be
completed in 55 weeks (15 months).
Expenses for ADN and BSN Programs
Expenses for nursing students are the same as for all
other college students, plus additional costs related to: nursing uniforms and
accessories, skills lab supplies, standardized/achievement test materials,
liability insurance, criminal background checks, and annual concurrent
membership dues to the National Student Nurses Association (NSNA) and Bacone
Student Nurses Association (BSNA). Additional CAPN expenses include: Excelsior
